By now you all should be aware of Furness Fest, but for those who don't its a live music & arts festival spread over three days and nights (18,19 &20th July). It is fully licensed with a 2,500 capacity set on a 50 acre site with views of the Irish sea and the Lakelend fells. On top of all the live music tickets include , Free camping and parking, Children's music, arts and circus workshops and more. This is probably one of the most exciting things to happen in the area since the days of the amphitheatre concerts at the abbey so we all need to show our support and get tickets so the festival remains a permanent fixture and comes back bigger and stronger next year!
Picks of the weekend
Friday
The Holloways - The Holloways formed in a little place called Nambucca on Holloway Road, north London, back in November 2004. They’ve built up a huge following after their hits ‘Generator’ and ‘Happiness and Penniless and i bet they bring the house down.
Dj Food - With a seemingly single DJ name, it is often wrongly assumed that DJ Food is single person. In fact, a whole host of DJs, producers and musicians have performed under the name, so the evolutionary nature of the DJ Food sound comes as no surprise. Matt Black and Jonathan More (aka Coldcut) were responsible for starting Jazz Breaks series in the early '90s. Along the way they met Patrick Carpenter, who, being listed on the liner notes simply by his initials, was often mistakenly thought to be a Personal computer. A loose collaborative team began to form as more like-minded people arrived at the party, including Paul Brook, Paul Rabiger, Strictly Kev and Issac Elliston.
The Mooncats - Curwen and his band of merry men are sure to get the crowd going, if you haven't seen the Mooncats before don't miss them, if you have then you know not to miss them
highlight of Friday, all the locals singing along with Tight Top Terry! and A Darker Disco hosting the beer tent
Saturday
Monster Monster - with their indoor festival activities taken outdoor Monster Monster should feel right at home.
Neck - The legendary Irish punk rock spectacular are on their way to Furness Fest 2008! Fresh in from Glastonbury, they guarantee to get crowds up on their feet with tunes that include their anti-racism chart hit 'Every body's welcome to the Hooley'!!
Greg Vickers - The original Tribal sessions resident should smash hell out of the Homegrown tent with his own own special blend of Tribal techno.
highlight of Saturday, the dressed up Monster Monster going crazy on the stage
Sunday
Codejack - Local rock monsters always put on a slick performance and i don't see sun being any different
Aim - Closing out Sunday is one of barrows finest exports, if you have not seen Aim before make sure you do his show is fantastic.highlight of Sunday - hopefully Aim playing The girl who fell through the ice, a song about a frozen Barrow park lake!
and the rest of the artists
